Dr. Bartolome Finizola
Director of Cardiology/Cardiologist

Dr. Bartolomé Finizola graduated as a medical doctor in 1970 from the Universidad Central de Venezuela School of Medicine, from which he later went on to pursue his postgraduate studies obtaining his Magister Scientiarun in Cardiology in 1975.

Since then he has completed a number of specialised courses in the fields of Public Health, Cardiovascular Epidemiology, the Epidemiology of Chronic Diseases, Bioestadistics Investigation, Cardiology Research, Methodology and Management of Health Services at renowned medical institutions such as Boston University’s Epidemiology Clinic, Massachusetts Medical Center, Boston University’s Framingham Heart Institute and O.P.S. Washington.

In 1974, after initially serving as a medical doctor ay the “Rafael Antonio Gil Duaca” Hospital in Venezuela’s Lara State, Dr. Finizola joined the University Hospital of Caracas as a Fellow of Postgraduate Cardiology. In 1976 he became the Medical Director of ASCARDIO (Ad-honoren) and from 1976 to 1983, held the position Regional Director of the Cardiovascular Program in Barquisimeto. Between1984 and 1990, he was the Consultant Physician to the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases M.S.A.S. in Caracas and then General Director of Health for M.S.A.S.

In October 1990, Dr. Finizola was appointed President of the Foundation for the Health Promotion of Lara State, a position he held until December 1995. The following year he became President of the Health Commission for Health Law in Lara State as well as President of the Venezuelan Heart Foundation. Since November 1998 he has been President of the Interamerican Heart Foundation and in January 2007 was also appointed President of the Venezuelan Society of Cardiology.

Dr. Finizola is member of the Mara State Medical School, the Venezuelan Society of Cardiology, the Interamerican Hypertension Society, the Union of Societies of Cardiology of South America (USCAS), the Interamerican Heart Foundation and the Venezuelan Heart Foundation. He is also the co-founder and member of the Venezuelan Society of Critical Medicine and the Venezuelan Society of Arteriosclerosis.

Dr. Finizola has published numerous studies and papers on a wide range of cardiovascular disease-related subjects. He has also lectured and participated extensively at conferences, symposiums and workshops around the world.
