Dr. Risshi Rampersad

Dr. Risshi D. Rampersad pursed his undergraduate education at McGill University, Canada where he graduated in 1995 with a B.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. On his return to Trinidad, he worked at Industrial Gases Ltd. (IGL) lending his expertise to IGL’s Engineering Department.

A year later, Dr. Rampersad decided to pursue a degree in Medicine at the University of the West Indies Mona Campus in Jamaica from which he graduated in 2001 with a MB.,BS.

From 2001 to 2005, Dr. Rampersad held several Senior House Officer (SHO) positions in Cardiology at Bristol Heart Institute, in Cardiology at Caribbean Heart Care as well as in Neurosurgery, Paediatric Surgery, and ‘Crash Team’ and PCF at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex.

In 2005, Dr. Rampersad applied to Dr. Bartolomé Finizola and was accepted to further his postgraduate studies in Cardiology at Venezuela’ prestigious cardiovascular centre, Ascardio. However, while at Ascardio, he unfortunately sustained injuries due to an accident and had to temporarily postpone his studies.

In 2006, during his rehabilitation, he joined Caribbean Heart Care’s Department of Cardiology. While there, he invited his professors from Ascardio to join the CHCm team and expand its Interventional Cardiology Department.

Under the guidance of the Ascardio team, Dr. Rampersad continued working with CHCm and in September 2007 when Ascardio and CHCm entered into an official partnership agreement, he became CHCm’s Acting Cardiology Registrar as well as our Cardiology Clinical Administrator.

Working alongside such esteemed consultants as Dr. William Ramón Torres, Dr. Eleazar Diaz Garcia, Dr. Jose Miguel Martinez, Dr. Jose Burgos, Dr. Bartolomé Finizola, Dr. Kamal Rampersad, and Professor Gianni Angelini, Dr. Risshi Rampersad has acquired a wealth of experience over the last three years. Since he joined our Department of Cardiology, CHCm has attended to more than 5,500 patients including performing over 2,500 catheterization procedures.

Dr. Rampersad continues to work full-time in Cardiology while pursuing his postgraduate qualifications in Cardiology through Ascardio Cardiovascular Institute. His goals are simple: To ensure that CHCm maintains its status as a world class heart care facility and eventually becomes the largest cardiac facility of its kind in the region, as well as to reduce mortality and morbidity of cardiovascular disease in Trinidad and Tobago.
